Both AWStats and Webalizer create your web traffic analysis reports by analyzing your raw HTTP log files in the background. They then store a monthly history of your reports without requiring the raw log files in the future. This allows you to look back on previous months and assess trends over time. Competing hosts provide only monthly website traffic analysis; your report is overwritten each month, requiring you to remember to download each month's report to your own computer at the end of each month.
Additionally, because this history is retained without requiring the raw files, you will more than likely never need to access them.
